Developed through a collaboration between NASA and Lunar Innovations Inc., RPM integrates lunar regolith — the loose dust and rock covering the Moon's surface — with advanced polymers. This innovative blend can be 3D printed directly on-site, drastically reducing the logistical burden of transporting building materials from Earth.

The material boasts significant advantages over conventional alloys. Engineers report RPM to be 30% lighter than current aluminum-lithium structures, while also providing 50% greater radiation shielding. These properties are critical for protecting inhabitants from the harsh lunar environment, where solar and cosmic radiation pose constant threats.

Prototypes of RPM structures are expected by late 2026, with planned integration into Artemis program habitats for sustained human presence on the Moon. This advancement moves beyond mere engineering, touching upon the very fabric of future off-world existence.
